What is Oocyte Cryopreservation?
OOcyte Cryopreservation is a method used to "deep freeze" eggs so it can be used at a later date.

The basic technique involves the addition of protective substances known as cryoproctants that are applied to prepare the specimen to be frozen.

Liquid nitrogen, which has a temperature of -196 C., is used to place the specimen in a state called "suspended animation". Specimens in this state can be stored for long periods of time and used in the future.

Oocyte Cryopreservation?

  Oocyte Cryopreservation
Oocyte cryopreservation or egg freezing is a method used to preserve eggs by cooling and storing them at low temperatures. They can then be thawed at a future date and fertilized and cultured to grow into embryos that can be transferred to the uterus, providing additional opportunity for achieving conception.

Vitrification is the preferred method of egg freezing. Vitrification is a special metyhod of freezing that involved very rapid freezing as opposed to traditional slow freezing.

As with the usual process of In Vitro Fertilization, multiple eggs may be stimulated to grow, be recovered from the ovary and frozen. These then can be used at a later date to fertilize using ICSI. NewLife will store eggs with annual renewal of a cryopreservation agreement.

Worldwide, cryopreservation of human eggs has been shown to be a successful procedure and there are no reports of increased birth defects in pregnancies achieved through this process.

Who is a suitable candidate for egg freezing?

Eggs freezing is suitable for those clients who want to preserve their fertility. e.g. a single woman or a woman who is about to undergo chemotherapy or radiation that has the potential of causing sterility.
