An investigative process will be explained to you and this will commence around the time of the female partner’s third day of menstrual flow. You will be advised to call your clinic on the first day of your menses in order to schedule an appointment for bloodwork and full bladder ultrasound on the third to fifth day of your cycle. You will continue to come in for bloodwork and ultrasound (subsequent scans do not require a full bladder) two to three more times during the cycle and at each visit you will see a nurse who will advise you of when to schedule these appointments.
You will be advised to schedule a Hysterosalpingogram or Sonohysterogram. This can be scheduled through your clinic at the time you schedule your initial appointment for bloodwork and ultrasound. This is to check your fallopian tubes and it is scheduled from day 6 to day 12 of your cycle. The male partner will also be advised to schedule a semen analysis and a container with instructions will be provided for this purpose.
A detailed patient orientation will be provided to you and it is highly recommended that you read through this thoroughly so that you can obtain a good understanding of the procedures that may take place depending on the outcome of your assessment. Many of the initial investigations are also covered by your health card with the exception of a few specialized tests such as sonohysterogram and post coital test which will require a fee to cover disposable items. You will be advised of the costs of these tests should they be required.
After completion of your investigative cycle, you should schedule an appointment for review with your physician. At this time a treatment recommendation will be made. We encourage you to get as much information as possible so that you can participate fully in the decision making.
Some fertility treatments are not covered by your health card. The fees will be discussed with you upon your first visit with the nurse when you start your treatment cycle. A fee agreement will be signed at that time. |
